About Birch Essential Oil

Birch essential oil is produced from the bark and twigs of Betula lenta, the sweet birch of eastern North American forests. The bark is macerated in warm water before distillation, which develops the oil's signature sweet, penetrating aroma.

The scent is intensely sweet and cool, very close to wintergreen, with a woody, almost candy-shop character. In blending it behaves as a dominant note: a trace amount is enough to flavor the whole profile, and it sits well with fir, cedarwood, and vanilla in outdoorsy compositions.

This is a fragrance and craft oil first: think birch tar soaps, woodsy candle blends, and cabin-scented room sprays. Birch oil is exceptionally concentrated, so keep it out of reach of children, use only trace dilutions in any skin-contact project, and many crafters reserve it for candles and room scenting alone.

From Bark to Bottle

Harvested

Bark and twigs of Betula lenta are gathered from eastern hardwood stands.

The bark soaks in warm water, the step that develops sweet birch's signature aroma.

Distilled

The wet charge is stilled on our own equipment, one small batch at a time.

Each batch is lab-analyzed, with the methyl salicylate percentage quantified.

Bottled

Sealed in glass, dated, and stored away from heat and light until it ships.

Tested, Documented, Published

Sweet birch is nearly a single-compound oil, which makes purity measurable rather than a slogan. We publish the certificate of analysis for the current batch, so you can see the methyl salicylate percentage before you order a single bottle.

Extraction method: water maceration followed by distillation. Botanical: Betula lenta, bark and twigs only.
